Ke Zhien, the Kaohsiung mayoral candidate of the Kuomintang, expressed in an interview on the 20th that he hopes his opponent, Lai Ruilong, the Kaohsiung mayoral candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party, will accept the invitation of young students from Sun Yat-sen University for a one-on-one debate. However, the organizer recently announced that Lai Ruilong will appear at the "2026 Mayoral Candidate Youth Forum-Kaohsiung" at 7 pm on October 1. As for Ke Zhien's hosting time, it has yet to be confirmed, and there are no plans for a debate on the same stage.

On the 19th of this month, when Lai Ruilong joined forces with Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Boyang, they launched a two-city debate. Ko Chi-en announced that he would first accept the invitation of young students from Sun Yat-sen University to debate on the same stage, and have a one-on-one duel on Kaohsiung's municipal administration and youth issues.

In this regard, Liu Pinyou, chairman of the Taiwan Youth Thoughts Association, said that the event was an invitation to discuss from the beginning, and was co-sponsored by the Taiwan Youth Thoughts Association, Taiwan Students Federation, Taiwan Yidianyou Education Association, Taiwan Youth Democracy Association, and National Sun Yat-Sen University Sociology Society. Kaohsiung mayoral candidates from the National and Democratic parties were invited to hold discussions with young students respectively, and there was no plan to debate on the same stage.

Liu Pinyou pointed out that Lai Ruilong’s forum time has been finalized from 7 to 9 pm on October 1 at the small theater of the Academy of Social Sciences of Sun Yat-sen University. It will be targeted at students from Sun Yat-sen University and other tertiary institutions. The Next Generation Humanistic Transportation Promotion Association and the Global Citizen Foundation will be invited to the venue to exchange ideas on leasing, education, transportation and environmental protection issues that students care about. Ke Zhien's time has yet to be confirmed.
