Jin Air suspends operations on the Pohang-Gyeongju-Gimpo route from October 25

Starting in October, flights between Pohang Gyeongju Airport and Gimpo Airport will be suspended.

According to Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City on the 8th, Jin Air, the only airline that operates at Pohang Gyeongju Airport, will suspend operations on the Pohang Gyeongju-Gimpo route from October 25.

This company has operated a round-trip passenger aircraft once a day on the Pohang-Gyeongju-Gimpo route since the end of July 2020.

On this route, an annual deficit of more than 3 billion won occurred despite annual subsidies from Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City.

Jin Air decided to suspend operations as its accumulated deficit over the past six years reached 38 billion won.

However, Jin Air will maintain the Pohang-Gyeongju-Jeju route, which runs twice a day.

A city official said, "As the number of KTXs traveling between Pohang Station and Seoul Station increased, the ridership rate remained at 30-35% and the deficit increased. We discussed with Jin Air to maintain the route, but we were informed that it would be difficult to maintain the route."
