The agency stated that the perpetrators called the man and informed him of a parcel allegedly addressed to his mother. He provided them with a delivery code, after which he began receiving fake messages about his Gosuslugi account being hacked. Calling back the spoofed number from the SMS, he heard from the scammers that a power of attorney to manage his accounts had been executed in his name, and they elicited what savings, apartment, and car he had.

Then the scammers began communicating via video call, intimidating him with allegations of financing criminal activity and criminal prosecution. Under their influence, the young man sent hourly video reports of his whereabouts, conducted a video-call search of the apartment, left the key under the doormat, and left the residence together with his mother.

"During this time, an accomplice of the scammers entered the apartment, opened the safe with an angle grinder, and stole the jewelry, collectible coins, and money inside. She handed the stolen items over to her accomplices. When the young man and his mother returned home, they found the safe cut open and the money missing.
