Why It Matters
Gazprom is conducting endurance tests of the Russian TM16 gas turbine engine with a capacity of 16 MW, produced at the Tyumen Engine Builders enterprise, for subsequent mass production and replacement of foreign analogues in the gas transportation system.
Gazprom has begun life tests of a Russian gas turbine engine with a capacity of 16 MW (TM16), produced at the Tyumen Engine Builders enterprise (part of Gazprom Energoholding, GEH), a RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the ceremony.
The gas turbine engine is designed for use on the Gazprom gas transportation system. It will undergo life tests at the Turtasskaya compressor station (CS) of the Gazprom Transgaz Surgut company at the stage of pilot operation.
“Tyumen Engine Builders, like other enterprises of the Gazprom Energoholding group involved in production cooperation, will be ready to begin serial production of TM16 based on the results of endurance tests,” commented the head of Gazprom Energoholding Denis Fedorov.
He added that for this, Tyumen Engine Builders has implemented a comprehensive modernization program: modern machine tools have been purchased and put into operation, and factory infrastructure has been updated.
According to GEKh materials, previously the lead sample TM16 successfully passed all stages of bench tests at the Tyumen Engine Builders plant, which confirmed compliance with all the requirements of the technical specifications. Then the engine was delivered to the Turtasskaya CS, where it was installed into the gas pumping unit, commissioning work and acceptance tests were carried out for 72 hours.
All equipment and components of TM16 are Russian-made. Key parts and assembly elements were made by the Tyumen Engine Builders plant. Some of the elements, as part of internal cooperation, were manufactured and supplied by other enterprises of Gazprom Energoholding - Gazenergoservis, Uralturbo and Nevsky Zavod. Low-emission combustion chamber - "NPF Teplofizika".
The materials note that the characteristics of TM16 are superior to foreign analogues used in the gas transmission system. The new engine is characterized by increased efficiency, longer overhaul and designated service life, and improved environmental characteristics.
TM16 will be used, among other things, for the planned replacement of worn-out foreign engines. The weight and dimensions of the gas turbine will allow it to be carried out without additional capital investments.
