65th Anniversary of Menderes, Zorlu and Polatkan, Who Were Executed After the 1960 Coup, was Commemorated

65 years have passed since the deaths of Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Minister of Finance Hasan Polatkan, who were executed as a result of the trials in Yassıada after the 1960 military coup.

AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, in his statement on his social media account, said, "Coups are always the enemy of the nation and the state. The greatest evil done to our country by those who are enemies of our nation's will are coups." He stated the following:

"As a result of a dark coup, Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Minister of Finance Hasan Polatkan were sentenced to death 65 years ago.

“THOSE WRONGLY EXECUTED CONTINUE TO LIVE IN THE HEARTS OF THE NATION”

Those who were unjustly executed continue to live in the hearts of the nation. The coup plotters were convicted before history.

We commemorate the late Menderes, Zorlu and Polatkan with mercy on the anniversary of their deaths. Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation."

Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said, "I remember with mercy and respect Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Minister of Finance Hasan Polatkan, who were executed as a result of so-called trials in which law and justice were disregarded following the May 27 coup against the will of the nation." He stated that the painful process after May 27 left deep wounds in the history of democracy and added the following to his statement:

"The cherished memories of Menderes, Zorlu and Polatkan continue to live in the hearts of our nation despite the 65 years that have passed. Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we will continue to defend the will of our nation and protect our democratic gains. May their souls rest in peace and rest in peace."
