Most German citizens doubt the Merz government's ability to carry out reforms

The majority of German citizens doubt the ability of the German government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz to successfully carry out the promised reforms, according to the results of a survey by the Forschungsgruppe Wahlen research group commissioned by the ZDF television channel.

“Only 28% of respondents believe that he (Merz - ed.) will generally be able to do this, and 67% doubt it (the rest found it difficult to answer the question),” the publication says.

At the same time, the very need for fundamental reforms in Germany is supported by 85% of Germans.

The poll also showed that dissatisfaction with Merz's performance as chancellor has reached an all-time high in Germany. Thus, 79% of citizens rated his activities as “rather bad,” and only 17% responded positively to them.

In addition, 65% of respondents expressed confidence that Merz would not be able to hold on to his post until the next Bundestag elections in the spring of 2029.
