Playwright Vahram Sahakyan detained in Armenia due to a post on a social network

The Investigative Committee of Armenia announced the detention of the famous Armenian playwright, actor and screenwriter Vahram Sahakyan for a post on the social network Facebook.

The department claims that on January 8, 2025, Sahakyan published a publication on his social network page that allegedly contained calls for hatred, intolerance, enmity and their propaganda.

“According to the expert opinion received on September 1, 2026, it was confirmed that the publication by V.S. (Vahram Sahakyan - ed.) contains hatred. On September 29, by the decision of the prosecutor, criminal prosecution was initiated against him under the article “Public statements aimed at inciting or promoting hatred, intolerance or enmity, as well as the dissemination of materials for this purpose using publicly displayed works, the media or information and communication technologies." He was detained," the message says.
