The European Union has so far postponed the confiscation of frozen assets of the Russian Federation to help Ukraine

For now, the European Union will provide financial assistance to Ukraine without confiscating Russia’s frozen assets. This was stated by the head of the press service of the European Commission, Paula Pinho, at an EC briefing, answering a question about the future of Russian funds, TASS reports.

“We are focused on working really clearly with Ukraine. First, we will fulfill our obligations to (...) timely allocate a loan to Ukraine, and then assess other financial needs before we can talk about specific possible tools to meet them,” the press service quotes her as saying.

According to Pinho, first the European Commission will fulfill its obligations to provide a loan to Kyiv in a timely manner, and then assess other financial needs. Only after this the EC is ready to discuss specific possible instruments to satisfy them.
