BR-116 and BR-251 adopt 'free flow' toll system with scheduled closures

The lane will be partially closed from 1pm and traffic will operate on a ‘Stop and Go’ system. From 3pm onwards, there will be a total blockade, expected to last 30 minutes.

According to the concessionaire, the expectation is that traffic will be completely reopened from 4pm.

BRs 116 and 251 will have tolls without booths and without gates. The model, called free flow, charges electronically through equipment installed on the road, capable of identifying vehicles in motion and recording the passage automatically.

The technology replaces traditional toll plazas with gantries equipped with cameras and sensors, capable of identifying vehicles in motion and charging without the need to stop.

In the system, vehicle identification occurs through an electronic tag installed on the windshield or by reading the license plate using optical character recognition (OCR) cameras. The sensors also classify vehicles according to height, width, length and number of axles, ensuring that the tariff corresponding to the category is charged.

Drivers who have an electronic tag will be charged automatically when they pass through the gate, without the need for any additional action. In addition to practicality, the modality guarantees a 5% discount on the fare value and allows access to the Discount for Frequent Users (DUF).

Drivers who do not have a tag, or who have the device inactive, will have their vehicle identified by the license plate. In these cases, payment can be made within 30 days after the ticket via the internet at self-service totems that will be installed at the User Support Services (SAU). Along the concession stretch, 14 service points will be available.
