Bomb alarm at Larnaca Airport: Plane evacuated

A bomb alarm was given at Larnaca Airport in the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC). A bomb threat was made against the passenger plane, which was planned to depart from Larnaca Airport to Rome, the capital of Italy, at 11.10 local time.

In the threatening message sent in English, it was written that there was a bomb in the luggage on the plane and that the bomb "will explode in 20 minutes". Following the notice, security protocols were put into effect and the plane was not allowed to take off.

Approximately 190 passengers on the plane were evacuated and taken to the terminal building. Passengers were subjected to security checks again. In addition to police and fire brigades, bomb disposal experts were also dispatched to the airport.

Following the threatening message, the luggage on the plane was unloaded and taken under control. Police teams started checking the luggage with specially trained bomb detection dogs.

As part of security measures, another plane located near the plane where the bomb threat was made was also removed from the area. It was stated that a detailed search will be carried out in the cabin of the plane, and if no suspicious findings are found, the passengers will be taken back to the plane.

So far, there has been no official statement regarding the presence of explosives on the plane or in the luggage. Security checks continue.
