(Mokpo = Yonhap News) Reporter Jo Geun-young = On the 22nd, the National Honam Biological Resources Center announced that it had signed a technology transfer agreement with HY Co., Ltd. for patents related to the protection of cranial nerves and improvement of cognitive function using extracts of Siberia chinensis.

The research team at the Resource Center conducted a study focusing on the plant 'Chrysanthemum persimmon', which has been used for food and medicinal purposes since ancient times, and confirmed that the plant's active ingredients can prevent brain nerve damage and protect nerves, as well as improve short-term memory and cognitive function.

In particular, the resource center explained that the extract of Siberian syringa was found to help protect brain nerve cells, reduce inflammation, and inhibit the production of substances that can deteriorate memory and cognitive function.

It has been shown that it can have a positive effect on improving memory and learning ability by regulating the balance of neurotransmitters.

The researchers secured three related composition patents, two of which are pending application and one has been registered.

HY plans to use technology transfer materials to renew fermented milk and health functional foods related to mental health and to develop new products.

Park Jin-young, director of the National Honam Area Biological Resources Center, said, “This is an example of commercialization of functional materials using island and coastal biological resources, and is of great significance in expanding the industrial value of biological resources in areas directly related to public health, such as improving cognitive function.”
