Jeju Island collects residents’ opinions to prepare ‘Jeju-type basic society’ policy

Jeju Island is listening to residents' opinions to prepare a 'Jeju-style basic society' policy, one of the key pledges of Governor Wi Gon of the 9th popularly elected election.

Jeju Island announced on this day that it will receive residents' opinions on Jeju-style basic social policies on the provincial website from the 14th to November 30th.

The Jeju-style basic society is a plan for Jeju Island to establish a guarantee system so that all residents can enjoy the seven basic services, including income, care, housing, transportation, medical care, and culture.

Anyone can participate in the collection of opinions without any restrictions on format or field.

You can freely suggest inconveniences and difficulties you experience in daily life, areas where you feel there is a lack of support or services, and newly needed policies and services.

The opinions received are reviewed by the responsible department and discussed with experts, and are used to determine the policy direction of a Jeju-type basic society and identify specific policy tasks.

In addition to collecting opinions from residents, the province also checks how well the policies and projects currently being implemented support the basic lives of residents.

We plan to diagnose the basic life support services currently provided by investigating the support targets, contents, and service delivery system in each field, such as income, care, housing, and transportation.

The province compares this with the results of collecting opinions from citizens to identify areas that cannot be sufficiently supported by existing policies alone, and discovers policies that need to be linked or supplemented and new necessary projects.

Going forward, we plan to continue education and promotion of basic social issues, discussions with experts, and discovery of policy tasks.

Go Min-jeong, head of the Jeju Basic Society Promotion Team, said, “Basic social policies must start from the lives and daily lives of residents,” and added, “We will carefully look at the experiences and opinions of residents to set the direction for a Jeju-style basic society.”
