Iranian President Pezeshkian meets with UAE Crown Prince... discussing relationship improvement

Iranian President Massoud Fezezhikian met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the first time since the outbreak of war between Israel and the United States and Iran in late February to discuss improving relations worsened by the war.

According to AFP on the 13th (local time), President Fezeshkian announced that he met with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Nahyan the day before on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in India.

President Fezeshkian said, "For the first time since the war, I had a constructive conversation with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. We agreed to turn the page (of the past) and look to the future and build it together."

The Abu Dhabi Media Department also announced the meeting between Crown Prince Khalid and President Fezeshkian in a statement today and said that the two sides discussed several regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The two men emphasized the importance of reducing tensions, supporting efforts to strengthen stability in the region, and expanding peace and development opportunities for the people of the region, the media bureau added.

Regarding this meeting, Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, wrote on

Advisor Gargassi then commented on President Fezeshkian, saying, “He has shown balanced and reasonable positions and remarks in a protracted crisis.”

After the war began with the US and Israel's airstrikes on Iran last February, Iran launched retaliatory attacks against US allies in the region, and the UAE also suffered significant damage.

The UAE also announced last month that it would suspend trade and financial transactions with Iran.
