Advisor to the President of Lithuania called the US potash deal a “moral humiliation” of the EU

The US deal with Belarus to purchase potash fertilizers subject to European Union sanctions can be considered “a kind of moral humiliation” of the EU. This opinion was expressed by Advisor to the President of Lithuania Deividas Matulionis, Sputnik Lithuania reports.

“Any violation of [European Union] sanctions will have a moral aspect and a legal one, and at the same time a financial one... It would be a kind of moral humiliation,” he said.

According to Matulenis, Lithuania and its neighbors “remain united” on the issue of transit of Belarusian fertilizers from the producing country to the United States. He also has no doubt that European sanctions on Belarus will not be lifted.
