Serbian President Vucic resigns and will run for prime minister as an ordinary citizen

China News Service, Beijing, September 28. News from Belgrade: Serbian President Vucic submitted his resignation on the evening of the 27th local time and resigned from the presidency. He said that he would run for prime minister of the next government as an "ordinary citizen".

According to reports from Serbian Radio and Television, Vucic delivered a speech at the Presidential Palace on the evening of the 27th and submitted his resignation, resigning from the presidency. He will hand over the presidential powers to Serbian National Assembly Speaker Brnabic on the morning of the 28th, who will act as president. According to the Serbian Constitution and the "Presidential Law", the Speaker shall exercise the powers of the President for up to 3 months, and a presidential election should be held within these 3 months.

On the 5th of this month, the General Committee of the Serbian Forward Party decided to elect Vucic as the leader of the party’s parliamentary election list and candidate for prime minister. Vucic subsequently accepted the election. On the 9th, Vucic signed a presidential order to dissolve parliament and announced that an early parliamentary election would be held on October 25. On the 14th, Vucic announced that he would resign as president on the 27th and participate in the election for prime minister as an "ordinary citizen" after resigning.
