Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province pays 1.7 billion won in public welfare allowance to 2,956 fishermen before Chuseok

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 16th that it would pay 1.7 billion won worth of ‘fishermen public interest allowance’ to 2,956 fishermen in the province before Chuseok.

The public interest allowance for fishermen is a project to maintain the public function of the fishing industry and fishing villages and to support the income stability of fishermen. 600,000 won per year is paid to one-person businesses, and 300,000 won per person per year to businesses with two or more people.

The province received applications through city/county town/village community centers from March to May, and confirmed the target by checking the period of residence, whether or not a fishing business was maintained, and actual employment.

Fishermen who receive allowances must maintain fishing management requirements such as fishing licenses and comply with relevant laws and regulations, and implement environmental practice agreements to realize the public value of the fishery industry and fishing villages.

Chae Jung-seok, head of the provincial fisheries policy department, said, "I hope this public interest allowance will be of some help to fishermen who are suffering due to the disappearance of fishing villages and the decline of the fishing industry."
