Tainan City Health Bureau’s Mid-Autumn Festival Food Inspection: 2 unqualified items were punished

The Tainan City Health Bureau conducts a random inspection of ingredients for Mid-Autumn Festival moon cakes and barbecues.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, and moon cakes and barbecues are indispensable delicacies for many people's reunions. Nan City Health Bureau launched a Mid-Autumn Food Inspection Project, and a total of 64 items of food were sampled and inspected. 62 items were in compliance with the regulations, and 2 items were not in compliance with the regulations. Among them, red bell peppers were found to contain pesticide residues. The quantity did not meet the regulations. Since the product was sourced from other counties and cities, it has been transferred to the health bureau under its jurisdiction for handling according to its powers and responsibilities. In addition, Enterobacteriaceae were found to be inconsistent with the regulations after the initial sample of "green tea". After notifying the operator to make improvements within a time limit, the next sample of "Jinxuan Milk Tea" still did not comply with regulations, and a fine of 30,000 yuan was imposed in accordance with the law.

The Health Bureau conducted inspections on food manufacturing, sales, and catering businesses. A total of 33 companies were inspected, including 3 manufacturing companies, 20 sales companies, and 10 catering companies. 64 seasonal foods such as moon cakes, fillings, fruits and vegetables, meat products, aquatic products, soy products, and barbecue sauces were randomly inspected to ensure food safety during the festival from manufacturing, sales to catering.

The Nanshi Health Bureau and the Consumer Protection Officer launched a Mid-Autumn Festival food inspection.

In the food labeling inspection section, a total of 73 products were inspected, 3 of which did not comply with the provisions of Article 28 of the Food Safety and Hygiene Management Law, and were fined a total of 60,000 yuan in accordance with the law; 33 companies were inspected for food good hygiene practices (GHP), of which 27 were in compliance with the regulations, 2 were provided with guidance for improvement, and the other 4 were re-inspected and passed the inspection after improving within a time limit.

The Health Bureau stated that mooncake fillings such as bean paste, date paste and custard have high water content, and operators can add preservatives in accordance with regulations to extend the shelf life. This sampling inspection also conducted preservative inspections on 17 items including baked and steamed products, meat products, soybeans or beans and related processed products, and the results were all in compliance with regulations. The Health Bureau calls on the public to follow the principles of "clear sources, complete labeling, proper storage, and moderate consumption" when purchasing mooncakes, avoid purchasing products of unknown origin, store them properly according to the labeling method, and consume them as soon as possible within the expiration date.
