Brief retelling from RIA II

Since the beginning of 2026, every fourth foreign tourist who came to Antalya turned out to be Russian.

The Russian market maintained its volumes even against the backdrop of a general decline in tourist flows to the province: the number of tourists from Russia increased by 0.1% over eight months.

Germany remains Antalya's second largest market, but the number of German tourists fell by 5.5%.

ANKARA, September 6 - RIA Novosti. Every fourth foreign tourist who came to Antalya since the beginning of 2026 turned out to be Russian, and the Russian market maintained its volumes even against the backdrop of a general decline in tourist flow to the province, Ezgi Bayraktar, a travel agent from Ankara, told RIA Novosti.

According to the Turizmnews portal, citing regional authorities, 11,023,586 foreign tourists visited Antalya in January-August. This is 5.8% less than for the same period in 2025. Over the past eight months, 2,667 thousand tourists arrived from the Russian Federation - 0.1% more than last year. The share of Russians in the total foreign tourist flow reached 25.9%.

“For Antalya, this is a very important indicator. Russian tourists make up approximately a quarter of the total foreign tourist flow, and now this market is showing one of the most stable dynamics. Against the background of a general decrease in the number of arrivals, the number of tourists from Russia has remained virtually unchanged, and in August even increased noticeably. Imagine, every fourth tourist is a citizen of the Russian Federation,” Bayraktar said.

According to her, the August increase is particularly significant as the total flow of foreign tourists to Antalya fell by 1.7% that month.

“It turns out that the Russian market has once again gone against the general trend,” noted the agency’s interlocutor.

Germany remains Antalya's second largest market. Over eight months, 2 million 83 thousand German tourists visited the province, but their number decreased by 5.5%. Germany accounted for about 20% of the foreign tourist flow. Russia and Germany together accounted for about 43% of all foreign arrivals in Antalya in eight months.

The UK took third place - more than 985 thousand tourists, but the British flow decreased by almost 12%. About 855 thousand people came from Poland, which is about 6% less than last year.

“This concentration shows how strongly Antalya’s results depend on the two largest markets. Russia is still stable, while a number of other major areas are experiencing a decline. Therefore, the stability of Russian demand is now of particular importance for the region,” Bayraktar explained.

Open Questions

  • ?How long will the stability of the Russian tourist flow to Antalya remain?
  • ?What measures are the Turkish authorities taking to support the tourism sector?
  • ?Will the increase in the number of Russian tourists compensate for losses from other markets?
