Egypt plans to make the Mediterranean coast year-round for Russians

Egypt hopes to attract Russian tourists to the country's Mediterranean coast and make it a year-round tourist destination, Wael al-Nashar, head of the Egyptian Airport Management Company, told RIA Novosti.

Egyptian resorts on the Red Sea - Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh - are popular among Russian tourists. This year, Egyptian airlines began operating flights to Russia from resorts in the north of the country.

“These are not just seasonal flights, but a strategy for changing the tourist map for Russians in Egypt. That is, the Mediterranean coast should become the same tourist destination as traditional resorts on the Red Sea,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

According to him, Egypt intends to maintain air traffic with Russia in this direction during the winter season.

“The Egyptian side plans to maintain these flights to Russia during the winter season. This will transform the Mediterranean coast from a predominantly summer destination into a holiday destination throughout the year,” al-Nashar explained.

He noted the high demand for flights from Russia to El Alamein airport on the Mediterranean coast. “Several airlines have formed programs until the end of November. They operate up to two flights a week at full capacity,” the agency’s source said.

Air Cairo's first flight from El Alamein to Moscow took place on August 15. On September 1, the airport received the first flight from Moscow of Nesma Airlines.
