On the 23rd, the Guizhou main venue event of the 2026 Chinese Farmers Harvest Festival kicked off in Taijiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. With the theme of "A bumper harvest opens a new chapter and hard work promotes revitalization", the event focuses on displaying the development results of Guizhou's mountainous agricultural development and the new look of the countryside through activities such as agricultural product exhibitions and sales, farming experiences, folk custom performances, and production and marketing docking.
Accompanied by Miao flying songs and the sound of reed pipes, a parade of Miao costumes set off from the third roundabout in Taijiang County and marched to the sister square. The parade is organized into multiple formations around agricultural technology, farming culture, harmonious countryside, and characteristic industries. Villagers carrying grain, children holding rice ears, and people in costumes sing along the way.
"This year's harvest is good. We are very happy to dress up and celebrate the harvest festival." said Wang Chunrong, a villager in Taijiang County. Ling Hong, a tourist from Huangshan, Anhui Province, watched the Miao costume parade up close for the first time. "The scene was very shocking, and the Miao costumes were also very beautiful. I have never seen such a scene before."
An agricultural product exhibition and sales area was set up at the event site. Taijiang and Guizhou specialty agricultural products such as carp-kissed fragrant rice, alpine purple sweet potato, Guizhou sour soup, etc. were on display. Tea, edible fungi, specialty fruits and vegetables, and ecological livestock and poultry products also attracted many tourists.
A live broadcast room was also set up at the exhibition and sales site. Anchors, farmers and village cadres took turns promoting Guizhou's agricultural products. The combination of online live broadcast and offline exhibition and sales expanded sales channels for agricultural products.
"An important part of this harvest festival is the docking of production and marketing." Guo Chenchao, director of the Taijiang County Characteristic Economic Crop Development Center, said that 110 booths were set up at the event. It is hoped that with the help of the harvest festival platform, more Guizhou agricultural products will go out of the production areas and go to the market.
The Harvest Festival is also a window to showcase local culture. Performances such as Miao Fei Ge, Lusheng performance, and wooden drum dance were performed one after another, and Miao embroidery, silver jewelry and other intangible cultural heritage skills were displayed in a concentrated manner. The embroiderers thread needles and threads to make embroidery pieces, and the silversmiths make silver jewelry on site. Visitors can experience the traditional Miao skills up close. Miao specialty delicacies such as fish in sour soup and beef in sour soup also add a "Miao flavor" to the harvest festival.
"I have never been exposed to such an event before. It is very novel to see different styles of Miao costumes here." Anhui tourist Ye Zi said that in addition to feeling the atmosphere of the harvest festival, he also hopes to take this opportunity to see Guizhou's landscape and understand the local ethnic culture.
The harvest festival extends from the stage to the fields. Farming experience activities such as catching fish and ducks in the rice fields, making glutinous rice cakes on the farm dam, and making sister rice have attracted many people and tourists to participate. The local government has also set up interactive projects in conjunction with rural sports brands such as "Village BA" to further integrate farming culture, ethnic culture and rural tourism.
Ou Degui, a villager in Zhanfu Village, Taijiang County, who is over 80 years old, came to the event with old-fashioned farm tools. Having been farming all his life, he has a deep understanding of the changes in agricultural production methods. "In the past, these farm tools were passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, agricultural mechanization is getting higher and higher, and farming efficiency has also improved." Ou Degui said that from traditional farm tools to mechanized production, not only the farming methods have changed, but also the lives of farmers.
Guo Chenchao introduced that this year’s Harvest Festival highlights the “docking of production and marketing” and the “integration of agriculture, culture, sports and tourism”. On the one hand, it promotes “Guizhou goods coming out of the mountains” through online and offline linkage. On the other hand, it integrates “Village BA”, Miao Fei Ge, long table banquets, intangible cultural heritage, etc. into activities, hoping to transform the passenger flow brought by the festival into an increase in industrial development.
The main venue event will last until September 25th.
