Wuhan University of Science and Technology has added 6 new majors for undergraduate enrollment in 2026, focusing on cutting-edge technology and national strategic needs

China News Service, Wuhan, June 15 (Li Yufei) Wuhan University of Science and Technology recently announced that the school has a total of 71 undergraduate enrollment majors in 2026, including 6 new enrollment majors: low-altitude technology and engineering, cyberspace security, integrated circuit design and integrated systems, big data management and application, functional materials, and synthetic biology.

According to reports, the new major is oriented to the frontiers of science and technology and future industries, accurately aligns with national strategic needs, regional economic and social development, focuses on national cyberspace security, new generation information technology, new material industry development and the construction of Hubei low-altitude economic demonstration zone, etc. It deeply integrates multi-disciplinary knowledge and has the distinctive feature of interdisciplinarity, aiming to cultivate compound talents that adapt to the development of new productive forces.

The low-altitude economy is a strategic emerging industry. In 2025, the school has set up a doctoral and master's degree authorization point for the interdisciplinary low-altitude technology and engineering. In addition, this year's new undergraduate major of low-altitude technology and engineering has formed a complete undergraduate, master's and doctoral talent training system for low-altitude technology and engineering.

Wuhan University of Science and Technology has strengthened the training of cross-disciplinary talents. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Wuhan University of Science and Technology was approved for five provincial-level dual bachelor's degree projects in digital materials, digital metallurgy, smart logistics, intelligent chemical engineering, and intelligent resource extraction. The total number of approvals ranked first among universities in Hubei. It also developed 21 series of micro-professional projects such as "digital intelligence +" and "green +", and established a collaborative talent training system for major majors, minor majors, micro majors, and dual bachelor's degree projects.

Chen Dongfang, dean of the school’s undergraduate college, said that during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, Wuhan University of Science and Technology has accelerated the “downsizing and expansion” of majors in response to the urgent needs of the national strategy and the construction of Hubei fulcrum, with the major adjustment ratio exceeding 37%, and continuously improving the adaptability of talent training and social needs. More than 90% of the school’s majors are deeply connected with Hubei’s “51020” industrial cluster, and the employment of graduates has firmly ranked among the top universities in Hubei. (over)
