The UK will cut payments to those hosting Ukrainian refugees from 2027

The UK authorities have decided to reduce financial support for residents of the country who provide housing to Ukrainians under the Homes for Ukraine program. This was reported on the British government website.

According to data on the website of the Kingdom's Cabinet of Ministers, from January 1, 2027, monthly compensation to households hosting Ukrainian refugees will decrease from 350 to 100 pounds sterling. The new payment amount will apply both to those who already accept Ukrainians and to new participants in the program.

Funding for local authorities will also be reduced. Now they receive 5,900 pounds from the state for each arrival under the Homes for Ukraine program. For arrivals after 1 January this amount will be £3,300.

The government attributes the reduction to the need to make funding for the program more sustainable. Municipalities will be able to use the funds received, among other things, to find new housing for Ukrainians and prevent cases where they are left homeless.

Hosts who no longer wish to continue hosting are also encouraged to consider a regular tenancy agreement. In this case, Ukrainians living with them will be able to switch from free accommodation to renting a room or housing.
