Kakao announces 23% reduction in rental data center cooling power costs

Ansan Center thermal management know-how expanded to leased data center

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Oh Ji-eun = Kakao [035720] announced on the 22nd that it had reduced cooling power costs by about 23% compared to the same period last year by improving the operation method of cooling facilities at the data center located in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do, which it is operating on consignment.

This achievement is the result of Kakao expanding its application of thermal management know-how accumulated at its own data center, Kakao Data Center Ansan, to leased data centers.

Kakao optimized the computer room cooling temperature and freezer cold water temperature based on actual operation data and field conditions without replacing or expanding facilities.

In particular, Kakao explained that it saved cooling energy through collaboration with LG CNS.

Kakao presented a reduction plan, and LG CNS verified stability by adjusting the operation method of major facilities such as the thermostat and humidity unit (FWU) and freezer.

Artificial intelligence (AI) agents developed by LG CNS were introduced in some computer rooms.

This AI agent analyzes the computer room environment and facility operation data in real time to autonomously control air conditioning facilities.

Kakao has previously reduced greenhouse gases by 4,753 tCO₂eq (carbon dioxide equivalent) per year at the Ansan Data Center through optimization of cooling facilities and self-consumption of solar energy.

A Kakao official said, "We confirmed that we can increase efficiency based on operational data even in a leased environment with limited facility replacement," and added, "We will continue to expand our eco-friendly data center operations."
