The court lifted the seizure of the property and accounts of the Podmoskovny boarding school after it was transferred to the state

In November 2025, a court in Moscow seized the private general education lyceum-boarding school "Podmoskovny" into the state's revenue to pay off the debt of its actual owner, Khodorkovsky*, in criminal cases. The defendants in the lawsuit were Platon Lebedev, Khodorkovsky*, the international company Jensen Court Ltd and the Dayspring Group corporation, registered in the British Virgin Islands.

After the decision came into force, the institution was transformed from a private educational institution into an autonomous non-profit organization "Multidisciplinary Gymnasium", the founders of which were the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education of the Moscow Region. According to legal documents reviewed by RIA Novosti, the reorganization was completed in April of this year. The website of the gymnasium states that the director is Karen Simonyan, who led the boarding lyceum, however, according to documents, since July the duties of the director of the gymnasium have been performed by Anna Korovina.

The Ministry of Education filed a petition to lift the arrest, indicating that the measure interferes with the execution of the court decision to confiscate the lyceum to the state.

“The private educational institution “Lyceum-boarding school “Podmoskovny” has been transferred to the ownership of the Russian Federation, which is confirmed by an extract from the Unified State Register of Real Estate, the court considers it necessary to satisfy the application (to lift the arrest),” the materials say.

According to the documents, the funds and property of the educational institution were under arrest, and the fulfillment of obligations between the lyceum, Khodorkovsky*, Lebedev and the Jensen Court Ltd company was also suspended. The arrest did not prohibit the use of property, but limited registration activities with real estate. Also, the administration of the boarding school was prohibited from terminating, on its own initiative or by agreement of the parties, employment contracts with employees, or completely or partially stopping the educational process.

The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit to turn the lyceum into state revenue. It stated that in 1995, Menatep Bank, controlled by Khodorkovsky* and Lebedev, founded the Inter-Industry Technological Institute. Subsequently, it became a private boarding school "Podmoskovny" named after Khodorkovsky's mother, M.F. Khodorkovskaya. The lyceum is located in the village of Karallovo, Odintsovo district, and owns 86 hectares of land, five residential and 40 non-residential premises with a cadastral value of 1.25 billion rubles. A representative of the fund, in turn, stated that the real value of the property exceeds 11 billion rubles.

The prosecutor's office noted in the lawsuit that the lyceum was taught by teachers who had been trained abroad. The interior of the institution was decorated with images of Khodorkovsky*, where he was presented as a politician and philanthropist.
