Heavy rain caused by Typhoon No. 25 spreads damage in Chiba and Kanagawa, 6 dead, 6 missing

Heavy rains caused by Typhoon No. 25 caused a series of landslides in Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures, and according to both prefectures, as of 8 p.m. on the 22nd, six people had died and six were missing. Both prefectures have requested disaster relief dispatch from the Self-Defense Forces, and are conducting a search together with police and fire departments.

According to Chiba Prefecture, on the afternoon of the 21st in Sodegaura City, a 51-year-old man who fell unconscious along with his heavy equipment fell down a cliff while removing collapsed earth and sand. In Sammu City, a woman in her 70s was taken to a hospital after a house collapsed due to a landslide in the back mountain, but she died.

In Kamogawa City, landslides engulfing houses occurred in two locations. A man and a woman in their 80s both died, and two men, one in their 70s and one in their 60s, are missing. In Mobara City, a woman in her 80s was found in a collapsed house in a state of cardiac arrest and was confirmed dead.

Five rivers and swamps flooded within the prefecture, including the Takasaki River basin in Sakura City, where large areas of residential areas were flooded. Approximately 300 families were temporarily stranded.

Just before 2 p.m. on the 21st in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a private house was crushed by a landslide, and the resident, a woman in her 60s, was trapped. Firefighters rescued him around 9:30 a.m., but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sediment also flowed into other apartments and private homes in the same city and Miura city. A couple in their 70s from Yokosuka City and women in their 20s and 30s from Miura City went missing.
