A criminal case has been opened against a 19-year-old resident of Sakhalin for desecrating the memorial plaque of the monument to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War.

The young man climbed onto the memorial plaque in his shoes and sat on it, and then distributed the photos on the Internet.

He is suspected under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public desecration of symbols of Russia’s military glory, committed in public, insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland, using information and telecommunication networks, including the Internet).

A criminal case has been opened against a 19-year-old resident of Sakhalin, who, wearing shoes, climbed onto the memorial plaque of the monument to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War, reports the press service of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.

According to investigators, on the evening of June 15, a young man, in order to insult the memory of defenders in the city of Okha, Sakhalin Region, climbed in his shoes onto the memorial plaque of the monument to soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War and sat on it. He asked a friend to record his actions on a mobile phone camera, and later distributed the photos on the Internet.

“The investigative department for the city of Okha of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Sakhalin Region has opened a criminal case against a 19-year-old local resident,” the statement says.
