Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang was invited to Singapore today (14th) to attend the "World Cities Summit (WCS)" and embarked on a compact urban innovation inspection itinerary. During the luncheon, Xie Guoliang communicated with port city leaders from the United States, Australia and other countries to share experiences in urban governance, port development and sustainable construction.
On the first day of Xie Guoliang's participation, he was received by Baey Yam Keng, mayor of Northeastern District of Singapore, who accompanied him throughout the entire process. He led the Keelung City Government team to visit Tampines Hub, the most iconic multi-functional complex community in the area. Xie Guoliang and Ma Yanqing exchanged experiences on "community integration for all ages" and "urban space activation".
Xie Guoliang said that the Tampines Center inspected today is an integrated community that integrates residents' daily needs, including: public services, sports venues, entertainment and leisure, food courts, bookstores and clinics, etc., integrating different places into the same complex, making citizens' lives more convenient and inclusive for all ages. It is also not restricted by the weather, allowing them to enjoy a stable community environment and quality of life.
During the luncheon, Xie Guoliang communicated with port city leaders from the United States, Port Stephens, Australia and other countries to share experiences in urban governance, port development and sustainable construction. Xie Guoliang said that as an important port city in Taiwan, Keelung faces challenges and opportunities that are very similar to those of many international port cities. Through face-to-face exchanges, we can not only learn from the successful experiences of various cities, but also allow more international partners to understand Keelung’s development results.
In addition, the mayor of Navotas City in the Philippines introduced local urban development experience to Xie Guoliang and warmly invited the Keelung City Government to arrange visits and exchanges in the future. Navotas City has the largest fish wholesale market in the Philippines and is an important local fishery and port economic center. Its development background has many similarities with Keelung, which also has both port and fishery characteristics. The two parties also exchanged views on issues such as fishing port transformation, economic development and sustainable urban governance, and look forward to continuing to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the future to jointly promote the innovative development of port cities.
