Hsinchu County ranks first in the country in terms of the number of Hakka speaking families commended and certified

The Hakka Committee recently announced the list of commendations for Hakka families in 2026. Hsinchu County won 115 groups of commendations in one go and was crowned the national champion, demonstrating the profound Hakka heritage of Hsinchu County and the energy of family inheritance from generation to generation! Not only that, in this year’s “Basic Level and Elementary National Certification of Hakka Proficiency”, Hsinchu County had 2,013 people sign up, also ranking first in the country, demonstrating the results of comprehensive efforts from families, schools to communities.

County Magistrate Yang Wenke pointed out that family is the most natural soil for the inheritance of mother tongue. If Hakka language is to truly survive, it must be heard and spoken by children in daily life. The county government actively implements the policy of "lecturers in the house, speakers in schools, and speakers in the community". In addition to formulating a budget to reward students for passing exams (up to 10,000 yuan in incentives) and including them in Zhumiao District's calculation of the excess quota for exam-free admissions, the Civil Affairs Office also promotes activities such as "Parents and children enjoy reading Hakkas together" and "Qingyin Co-prosperity Day Reading Hakka Village" to let the mother tongue naturally integrate into life.

The Civil Affairs Office stated that in order to encourage more families to speak Hakka, the county government organized the "Guests in My Heart Jokes - Short Video Contest" and "Hakka Families Go Out!" —Recruitment Plan", the application period has been extended to October 11. People only need to film a humorous short film in Hakka language within 1 minute by family members, and they will have the opportunity to compete for bonuses of up to NT$5,000 and various prizes. The first 50 families who successfully join the Hakka family recruitment program will also receive gift certificates. Friends of all ages are welcome to seize the last opportunity to participate together, record the daily Hakka life at home with laughter, and work together to inherit Hakka culture!
