China News Service, Shanghai, September 29 (Reporter Chen Jing) 2026 is the launch year of the "China-Russia Education Year" and also marks the 12th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia Medical University Alliance. Four pairs of Chinese and Russian universities signed a cooperation agreement in Shanghai on the 29th, marking a new stage of cooperation between the two universities.
The four pairs of signed universities between China and Russia are Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine-Sechenov University, Harbin Medical University-Saratov State Medical University, China Medical University-Tyumen State Medical University, and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine-Stavropol State Medical University.
It is reported that Sechenov University, which has signed a contract with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is one of the oldest and most influential medical universities in Russia. This signing will further consolidate the foundation of cooperation between the two universities in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine education, scientific research and clinical practice, promote the international spread of traditional Chinese medicine, and promote mutual learning between traditional medicine and modern medicine.
The Sino-Russian Medical University Alliance was proposed by Yang Baofeng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and co-initiated by Harbin Medical University and Moscow First Medical University. It consists of 140 high-level medical universities in China and Russia. It is the largest cooperation alliance between Chinese and Russian universities and the most extensive participating institutions.
After more than ten years of hard work, the Sino-Russian Medical University Alliance has achieved fruitful results and has become an iconic high-level cooperation carrier in the field of health care between the two countries. On the same day, the 12th Standing Council of the Sino-Russian Medical University Alliance, the Sino-Russian Medical Science and Technology Frontiers and the Sino-Russian Medical Education Innovation and Development Academic Conference (hereinafter referred to as the conference) were held in Shanghai.
The conference was hosted by the Sino-Russian Medical University Alliance and hosted by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Harbin Medical University. Ten academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Russian Academy of Sciences, heads and guests from more than 40 well-known medical universities in China and Russia, and more than 100 Chinese and foreign scholars attended the conference to discuss the new future of Sino-Russian medical science and education cooperation.
After the signing ceremony, the Sino-Russian Medical Science and Technology Frontier and Sino-Russian Medical Education Innovation and Development Academic Conference was held. Focusing on the theme of "Deepening Sino-Russian medical education cooperation and jointly promoting innovative development of medical and health care" and adhering to the concept of international cooperation in medicine, the conference opened four sub-forums: "Medical Technology and Artificial Intelligence", "Traditional Chinese Medicine, Modern Drugs and Major Diseases", "Regenerative Medicine" and "Preventive Medicine". More than 100 Chinese and foreign scholars focused on the cutting-edge trends in the field of medicine and health in China and Russia, conducted in-depth discussions around hot topics in the industry, shared breakthrough scientific research results in their respective fields, collided with ideas, and built consensus.
