Mai Xianmin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Southwest University for Nationalities, pointed out in his speech that the establishment of the School of International Communication is a profound reshaping of the school's educational philosophy, discipline system and education model. Facing the future, the school will closely adhere to the strategy of culturally strengthening the country, focus on a series of decisions and deployments such as the construction of the international communication base in Sichuan Province during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, concentrate its superior forces to comprehensively strengthen the construction of the International Communication School, actively promote the in-depth intersection of disciplines, cultivate high-quality talents who "know the language, understand communication, and understand the national conditions", build high-level think tanks and research platforms, and continuously expand the overall pattern of international exchanges and cooperation.
Lu Weijiang, a second-level inspector of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, said that the establishment of the School of International Communication at Southwest University for Nationalities is a useful exploration for the school to serve the country’s strategic needs, deepen the construction of new liberal arts, and promote cross-disciplinary integration. It is also a vivid practice for the school to give full play to the advantages of ethnic universities and solidify the awareness of the Chinese nation’s community. He hopes that the college will continue to deepen education and teaching reform, comprehensively improve the quality of talent training, and build a distinctive, domestic first-class international communication talent training and academic research highland.
Wei Qingguang, deputy dean of the School of International Communication at Southwest University for Nationalities, reported on the school’s construction ideas, which will focus on cultivating compound, practical, and digitally intelligent international communication talents. Starting from 2027, the self-established second-level master's degree program in international communication of Chinese culture will officially enroll students. The school will use this as a starting point to condense the research on the discourse translation of the Chinese nation community, the translation and interpretation of Chinese-style modernization theory, and the international communication of ethnic regions, so as to create a leading characteristic subject highland among ethnic minority colleges. The college will also continue to deepen the results of existing translation works, rely on the translation and introduction accumulation of the Center for Translation of Ethnic Cultural Relics and the International Communication Think Tank of Chinese Culture, and cooperate with more international publishing institutions to promote the translation of theme works and academic achievements that solidify the consciousness of the Chinese nation's community into mainstream overseas distribution channels.
After the unveiling ceremony, the college held a seminar on cultivating Chinese discourse international communication talents on the same day. Min Yi, executive deputy secretary of the Party Committee of China International Publishing Group and first-level inspector, Wang Zhongyi, former editor-in-chief of People's China Magazine, Zhang Falian, academic vice president of Hainan University, and Professor Long Xiaonong, dean of the School of International Communication at Communication University of China, delivered keynote speeches. Experts, scholars and industry representatives attending the meeting conducted in-depth exchanges and put forward relevant constructive opinions based on the development positioning of the college, serving national strategic needs, and cultivating talents for international communication of Chinese discourse.
