New Taipei City's Xindian passenger bus was shocked to see a passenger die for several days, and the operator was fined NT$30,000

Xindian Passenger Transport in New Taipei City today had a case where a passenger died in the bus for several days. The bus did not clearly check the condition of the car after the bus was over and was fined NT$30,000 by the Taipei City Government;

Police investigation revealed that the deceased surnamed Gao boarded a bus driven by the driver surnamed Chen from the Qingtan parking lot station at 8:40 pm on September 24, and did not get off the bus along the way. The driver drove the bus back to the terminal at 10:30 pm on the 24th, but the deceased was not found at that time.

According to the surveillance footage, the bus had been parked at the bus stop. Until the bus departed at 6:45 this morning, the driver did not notice the deceased lying in the back seat of the bus. It was not until the bus passed the Xindian MRT Station at 6:55 that anyone got on the bus and discovered the deceased and called the police.

The Xindian Police Station stated in a message that after the police arrived at the scene, they found Gao Nan obviously dead and did not send him to the hospital. The police also cordoned off the scene and reviewed relevant monitors. After the forensic team arrived at the scene to collect evidence, it was found that the deceased had no obvious trauma, and homicide was initially ruled out. The entire case will be submitted to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office for examination to clarify the cause of death.

Xindian Passenger Transport General Manager Gao Canhuang stated in a statement that after checking the surveillance footage on the vehicle, the driver surnamed Chen looked back when he was about to close the door. He closed the door without seeing any passengers on the seat. Because it coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, passengers were notified until the bus was put into operation today.

Gao Canhuang pointed out that the company will cooperate with the police investigation to find out who is responsible. The driver surnamed Chen's only visual inspection was inappropriate, and he may be in an unstable state physically and mentally, so he will be suspended from duty until he stabilizes before dispatching a car.

Gao Canhuang pointed out that the whole case will be included in the case, and the publicity will be strengthened to encourage drivers to confirm that there are no passengers in the car before leaving; the company will also fully disinfect and clean this bus. Passengers can ride with peace of mind.

Guo Jianchen, the inspection section chief of the Taipei City Public Transport Department, said that the Public Transport Department requires operators to educate the driver to clean the vehicle. In this case, there was an oversight in this regard. According to the provisions of Article 77 of the Highway Law, Xindian Passenger Transport failed to perform its management responsibilities and did not require the driver to clear the vehicle. Xindian Passenger Transport will be fined NT$30,000.
