The bear population in Siberia, due to a lack of food supply, may decrease by 30% by the summer of 2027, Yuri Kalinkin, a leading researcher at the Altai Nature Reserve, told RIA Novosti.

“The bear population is quite high now. Of course, we’ll see how it will be this year. In 2008, which we always refer to because it was similar, there was a lack of food, then the bear population decreased by about 30 percent. Next summer we’ll see how much the population will decrease this time, we assume that there may be a similar drop in numbers,” Kalinkin said.

In 2008, there was already a decline in the bear population by about 30% due to lack of food.

There have been 21 fatal bear attacks on people in Russia this season.
