NIZHNY NOVGOROD, September 28 - RIA Novosti. The area of ​​forest fires in the Kirov region has decreased by almost 10 times over 4 years, reports the press service of the regional government.

Good results were achieved thanks to the provision of systematic protection of forests from fires in the region. Forest fire units are fully prepared for the fire season, and air patrols are successfully conducted. The Lesokhranitel video monitoring system uses 21 cameras with artificial intelligence, and another 10 cameras will begin operating next season. To survey the outbreaks in 2026, 18 quadcopters were used.

“At the end of the season, 13 forest fires were recorded on an area of ​​15.2 hectares - this is three times less in number and five times less in area than last year. In general, the area of ​​forest fires this year is 9.7 times lower than the average for the previous four years. 12 out of 13 fires were extinguished on the first day,” the report says.

In addition, forest regeneration activities continue in the Kirov region within the framework of the federal project “Forest Conservation” of the national project “Ecological Well-Being”.

“The total volume of reforestation this year is planned for an area of ​​39 thousand hectares - the region intends to implement the plan in full. Since the beginning of the growing season, work has already been carried out on an area of ​​19.3 thousand hectares, which is 107% of the calendar plan. Agrotechnical care of forest crops has been carried out on an area of ​​12.4 thousand hectares - this is 124% of the established plan,” the message notes.

Good results were achieved in the field of procurement of forest plant seeds: against the target of 1.48 tons, 5.33 tons were harvested in the region - more than three times higher than the plan.

“The development of forest nurseries remains an important area. This year, about 32 million coniferous seedlings were grown in the Kirov region, with the region’s needs being 15-16 million. This volume allows not only to fully meet the needs of the Kirov region, but also to promote forest restoration in neighboring regions,” the message emphasizes.
