National Jinju Museum holds a special exhibition to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the donation of Doam Kim Yong-du, a Korean resident in Japan.

(Jinju = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Jeong-heon = The Jinju National Museum announced on the 21st that it will hold a special exhibition 'My Life Museum' from the 22nd to February 28th next year to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the donation by Doam Kim Yong-du (1922-2003), a Korean-Japanese businessman.

Kim Yong-du, from Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do, moved to Kobe, Japan with his family when he was young and achieved success in the steel processing business. He is a Korean-Japanese who donated a large amount of cultural heritage he had collected from other countries to his home country.

Starting with 114 artifacts in 1997, 49 artifacts in 2000, and 8 paintings of Sosangpalgyeongdo in 2001, a total of 164 artifacts and 197 artifacts were placed in the arms of the National Jinju Museum near his hometown.

This exhibition is the first exhibition of Duam donated items held in 15 years since 2011, and is the largest ever, showcasing 173 items from 146 items, including 2 treasures.

The exhibition highlights the teacher's life journey through three keywords: collection formation, disclosure, and donation.

Part 1, 'Collecting Unexpected Glory and Joy', presents works from the 1986 Yamato Bunkakan special exhibition in Japan, along with 'White Porcelain Blue and White Cloud and Dragon Pattern Jar'.

In particular, the original 'Eight Views of Small Sages', a masterpiece and treasure of landscape painting in the early Joseon Dynasty, will be revealed to the public for the first time in 15 years in Jinju.

In Part 2, 'Gathering together with the affection of nostalgia,' the treasure 'Jeongjo appeal', which stands out with its elegant handwriting and red silk, is exhibited, as well as the Goryeo Dynasty Buddhist scripture copy, bronze incense bowl with gold and silver engraving, and blue and white porcelain from the Joseon Dynasty.

In Part 3, ‘As if I had settled in my home country myself,’ calligraphy, painting, ceramics, and woodcraft donated on three occasions are introduced.

In addition, you can see explanation cards and study guides created by child curators from the Jinju Museum Children's Museum School.

An official at the Jinju Museum said, “Mr. Duam’s donation served as a stepping stone for the museum to grow into a comprehensive museum displaying high-quality art,” and added, “We hope that this special exhibition will be a meaningful opportunity to look back on past history.”
