Young craftsmen from Korea, China and Japan hold traditional paper technology exchange event ‘Three Kingdoms Orientation’ in Jeonju

Young craftsmen from three countries, succeeding Korean paper, Chinese paper, and Japanese paper, share their papermaking skills in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, the home of traditional paper.

The Jeonju Millennium Hanji Center of the Jeonju Cultural Foundation announced on the 21st that it will hold 'Three Kingdoms', a traditional paper cultural exchange event, for four days starting October 7.

This event, sponsored by Hansol Holdings, is designed as a practical communication venue where young successors from the three countries directly share papermaking technologies and secrets in the field, breaking away from theoretical and academic exchanges.

The event will be attended by successors from the College of Traditional Hanji Artisans fostered by Jeonju City, as well as two successors to a scholar from Jingxian, Anhui Province, China, and two successors to washi recommended by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan and the National Association for Water Conservation and Yellow Paper.

The program consisted of ▲ youth successor networking ▲ traditional Korean paper workshop visit ▲ traditional paper manufacturing demonstration and experience ▲ three kingdoms traditional paper exchange exhibition.

At the networking event held at the Jeonju Millennium Hanji Center on October 8, China's Zhu Yongpeng (China Shenji District Co., Ltd.), Japan's Yuko Yoshida (Kochi Prefecture Tosa Flower Paper), and Korea's Kim Jinmyeong (Traditional Hanji Artisan University) will present plans for preserving and succeeding traditional papermaking techniques in each country.

Then, on the 9th, a traditional paper manufacturing demonstration and experience event will be held for citizens and tourists at the Korea Traditional Culture Center.

Japan's Masaru Nishida and Korea's successors Jo Gye-hwan and Han Yi-soo will demonstrate paper making, and Chinese successors will also provide a rubbing experience and raw material manufacturing experience.

An official from the foundation said, "It is meaningful in that it is a practical exchange where traditional paper successors from Korea, China, and Japan share technology and experience," and added, "We will strive to establish Jeonju as a central city of traditional Korean paper culture by expanding international exchange and solidarity."
