Jeju Provincial Council holds the 1st Jeju K-Culture Strategy Forum under the theme of ‘K-Culture Era, Asking for Jeju’s Coordinates’

Jeju Provincial Council announced on the 21st that it will hold the 1st Jeju K-Culture Strategy Forum at 10 a.m. on the 22nd in the provincial council conference room.

This forum, with the theme of 'K-Culture Era, Asking for Jeju's Coordinates', was prepared to diagnose what strategic position Jeju should occupy and seek policy directions as the Korean Wave, including K-pop, K-drama, K-beauty, and K-food, is emerging globally.

In particular, experts in each field will discuss how to link Jeju's unique assets with K-culture beyond the Jeju tourism paradigm centered on nature viewing.

At the forum, former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Yang-woo will serve as moderator, and Dongyang University Professor Kim Jeong-tae will give a keynote presentation on the topic of 'Jeju's strategy in the K-culture era.'

Following the discussion, Kim Seong-min, head of the Seoul Economic Promotion Agency's beauty business division, Jeju National University professor Kim Jeong-hoon, Kim Hyun-hwan, visiting professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (former First Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Ryu Il-soon, director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Education, Jeon Hae-woong, former secretary-general of the Korean Food Promotion Agency, Choi Gwang-ho, CEO of Live Music, and Hwang Kyeong-seon, director of the Provincial Tourism Exchange Department, will discuss the topic.

This forum is hosted by Rep. Kim Bong-hyun of the Democratic Party of Korea and hosted by the Jeju Provincial Council's Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee, and is broadcast live on the Provincial Council's website.

Rep. Kim emphasized, “Even though Jeju has unique assets that can become the source material of K-culture, such as female divers, Tamna mythology, oreum, and Jeju language, the reality is that tourism is still limited to nature viewing.” He added, “We will complete the results of the discussion into practical policies by linking the enactment of the Jeju-style Korean Wave industry promotion ordinance and reflection in the budget.”
