The President of Kazakhstan said that those killed during naval exercises did not have life jackets

Kazakh servicemen who died during Navy exercises in the Caspian Sea did not have life jackets. This was stated by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a meeting with the top military leadership of the republic.

According to him, during the exercise the military personnel were not provided with the necessary equipment, including marine life jackets.

“Long-standing problems in the army are not resolved by the leadership from year to year, which undermines the country’s defense capability. No lessons have been learned from past tragedies. Who developed and approved the concept of these exercises?” Tokayev asked. He questioned the role of the General Staff in coordinating the exercises and asked why the Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces was absent from them.

Tokayev criticized the work of the military department, adding that their approach lacks systematic work.

Earlier it was reported that the leader of Kazakhstan posthumously awarded the fallen military. The tragedy in the Caspian Sea became known on September 24. 19 soldiers were carried away due to increased winds. 14 soldiers did not survive. The country declared mourning.
