Taoyuan City's Fuxing District is often a paradise for racing enthusiasts during holidays and eves. Last night, the Daxi Branch of the City Police Department, together with environmental protection and supervision units, went deep into Section 3 of Fuxing Road in Fuxing District to conduct a "joint inspection by environmental police and supervisors". They targeted suspected modified exhaust pipes and high-noise cars and motorcycles and stopped them for inspection. One of the Mazda sports cars was measured to have a noise level of 102 decibels, 9 decibels higher than the standard value of 93 decibels, and a NT$3,600 fine was issued on the spot.

A total of more than 10 cars and motorcycles were stopped and inspected during this service. After noise testing, a total of 2 vehicles exceeded the standard. They were reported in accordance with the law and each was fined NT$3,600, totaling NT$7,200. Since the beginning of this year, the Daxi branch has conducted 12 joint inspections by environmental police and supervisors, and a total of 30 noise violation cases were discovered.

Daxi Branch pointed out that the roads in the mountainous areas of Fuxing District are winding. Some drivers may think that the population in the suburbs is small and the roads are relatively remote, so they will arbitrarily increase the speed or drive modified vehicles to make loud noises. However, there are still many residents living along the mountainous areas. Vehicle noise is more obvious at night when the environment is relatively quiet, causing interference to the tranquility of residents' lives.

In order to prevent remote areas from becoming blind spots for noisy vehicles to circumvent the ban, the police continue to cooperate with environmental protection and supervision units to extend the scope of inspections to mountainous roads such as Daxi and Fuxing.

According to Article 26 of the Noise Control Law, if the noise of a motor vehicle exceeds the announced standard, the owner or user of the vehicle may be fined not less than NT$3,600 and not more than NT$36,000, and the vehicle owner or user may be notified of improvements within a time limit; those who fail to improve within the time limit may be punished on a case-by-case basis, and in serious cases, the supervisory authority may be required to suspend the license plate.
