The New Taipei City Animal Protection and Epidemic Prevention Office recently received a report that an orange cat was trapped on the separation island 15.7 kilometers away from the Taiwan Route 64 Expressway. Taking into account the large traffic flow and high speed, the Animal Protection Office immediately activated an inter-unit mechanism. The Sanchong Police Branch and the Maintenance Engineering Office dispatched police cars and anti-collision vehicles to implement traffic control. Six personnel from the Animal Protection Office conducted a two-way roundup and successfully rescued the orange cat. The orange cat was fine when it was sent for inspection, and was adopted by caring people in just one week, resolving the viaduct crisis.

Director of the Animal Welfare Department Yang Shufang pointed out that fast road rescue is difficult, and trapped animals are often frightened by the sound of traffic and run around, which can easily cause secondary traffic accidents. When animal protection personnel arrived at the scene that day, they found the orange cat huddled in the middle of the two-way separation island and did not dare to move. In order to ensure the safety of the rescue process, the police station and the maintenance office were contacted immediately for assistance. Police cars from the Sanchong Branch and the maintenance office's anti-collision vehicles were dispatched to the scene. Guards were placed at both ends of the road and flexible road closures were implemented to protect the safety of vehicles coming from behind. After the police cars and anti-collision vehicles laid down a safety line, six rescuers from the Animal Protection Office immediately prepared to gradually round up the cats using a two-way encirclement method to prevent the orange cats from running into the driveway due to fright.

Yang Shufang said that with a high degree of tacit cooperation across units, the rescue process was quite smooth. The personnel quickly put the trapped orange cat into a transport cage to complete the rescue mission, and brought it back to the animal home for further examination and care. After a detailed examination by the veterinarian, the orange cat was found to be in good health. After careful care and comfort by the staff, it had a very lovable personality. In just one week, it found caring people who were willing to adopt it, bringing this thrilling viaduct rescue to a successful conclusion. The rapid response and full support of the police station and the Nursing Department, through cross-unit horizontal communication, provided a safe rescue environment in the shortest possible time. This not only ensured the safety of rescuers and passers-by, but also successfully saved a precious little life.

Yang Shufang said that if people find trapped animals on highways or expressways, they should not get out of the car to rescue them rashly to avoid serious car accidents.
