Media personalities Zhou Yukou and Cai Yuzhen were sentenced for defaming Miss China Zhang Shujuan

Four years ago, media personalities Zhou Yukou and Cai Yuzhen pointed out that Miss China Zhang Shujuan was the heroine of Taipei Mayor Jiang Wanan's father Jiang Xiaoyan's "Jinghua bed rolling case" on the show. Zhang Shujuan was angry and sued for aggravated defamation. The Taipei District Court sentenced them both to one year and six months in prison in the first instance. After the case was appealed, the High Court today sentenced Zhou Yukou to 9 months in prison and Cai Yuzhen to 6 months in prison.

During the Taipei mayoral election in September 2022, Zhou Yukou and Cai Yuzhen were accused of revealing the name, marriage, occupation, photos and other personal information of former Miss China Zhang Shujuan on FTV programs and personal Facebook, alleging that Zhang Shujuan had been close to Jiang Wanan's father, Jiang Xiaoyan, and "was a sleeping heroine."

The verdict pointed out that Zhou Yukou said that she had a dinner at a restaurant in Taipei on April 18, 2021. Cai Yuzhen, who was at the same table, was familiar with the female manager surnamed Dai of the restaurant. Dai was a classmate of Zhang Shujuan's middle school. Old events were discussed during the meeting. In the first instance, the Taipei District Court sentenced Zhou and Tsai to one year and six months in prison each for aggravated defamation in accordance with the personal information law.

Zhou and Cai advocated innocence, while the prosecutor argued that the first trial sentence was too light, and both appealed. When the trial was held on May 19 this year, Zhou Yukou used the cell phone conversation record as new evidence in court. The presiding judge said "very wonderful" when he saw it. When the High Court resumed the trial on August 4 this year, both Yukou and Cai Yuzhen burst into tears in the court. They said that the case had also caused great harm to them and still maintained their innocence.

Zhang Shujuan said that she used to work as a flight attendant serving dishes because she was from a poor family. However, she was slandered when she was innocent. So far, they cannot reconcile because the two of them are still arguing. It pains her every time they appear in court. They are simply killing people with their words.

The High Court today sentenced Zhou Yukou to nine months in prison and Cai Yuzhen to six months in prison.
