Iran welcomes Qatar's mediation and confirms the continuation of diplomatic efforts to reduce the escalation

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said that the delegation’s visit came as part of Qatar’s efforts to calm the situation, noting that his meetings with Araghchi were fruitful. He added that diplomacy is a "dynamic and ongoing process" and that Tehran will continue to use diplomatic tools to protect its national interests.

Baghaei explained that during the past weeks, Iran received delegations from the Sultanate of Oman and Pakistan, pointing to continued communication with a number of countries in the region that have been seeking for some time to help contain the escalation.

Qatar stands out as a major mediator between Tehran and Washington, and also supports Iranian-Omani communications aimed at reaching temporary arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, including establishing a safe and common shipping corridor and removing mines from its path. Baqaei said that negotiations with Oman regarding defining this corridor have reached their final stages, with the expectation that the understanding will be registered with the International Maritime Organization in the coming days.

The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, visited Tehran in late August and met with Iranian officials, as part of the push towards resuming the diplomatic track and creating conditions for dialogue and de-escalation.
