‘Odyssey’ surpasses 10 million sales, loses first place after 43 days

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Won-hee = The movie 'The Intern' starring Choi Min-sik beat 'Odyssey' on the first day of its release and took first place at the box office.

According to the integrated movie theater ticket network on the 17th, 'The Intern' was viewed by 61,000 people (31.5% of sales share) the day before its release date, ranking first in the box office.

'The Intern' is a story about Ki-ho (Choi Min-sik), who retired after 30 years of working life, and joins a fashion startup led by Seon-woo (Han So-hee), a third-year CEO, as an intern.

It is a remake of the Hollywood movie 'The Intern', released in 2015. It attracted attention in that Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee played the roles of Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway in the Korean version. Director Kim Do-young of the movie 'If We' (2025) took the lead.

The film's CGV Egg Index, based on actual audience evaluations, is high at 95%. The acting and chemistry of the lead actors and the warm narrative received positive reviews.

Director Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' was watched by 41,000 people (28.8%) the previous day, following 'The Intern'.

'Odyssey', which had been ranked first in the daily box office for 42 consecutive days since its release on the 5th of last month, lost the top spot for the first time. The film, which was shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, was a box office success with its magnificent screen and sound, surpassing 10 million viewers for the second time this year following 'The Man Who Lived with the King'. The cumulative number of viewers is 10,921,000, exceeding the 11 million mark.

In terms of advance reservation rate, 'Odyssey' ranked first with 22.4% as of 9 am on this day. The number of advance tickets is 121,000.

Second place went to 'Assassin(s)' starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho, which will be released on the 23rd, with 17.7% (about 95,000 people). Director Heo Jin-ho directed this film based on the 1974 Liberation Day celebration of First Lady Yuk Young-soo's sniping incident.

Third place was ‘Interns’ (13.0%, approximately 70,000 people).
