Cambodian mango snack food arrives in Shanghai, Chinese companies help upgrade local agricultural industry chain

China News Service, Phnom Penh, September 28 (Yang Qiang, Zhang Yanlin) Twelve containers of mango snack food produced by Zhongbao (Cambodia) Food Technology Co., Ltd. (Zhongbao Food) located in western Cambodia arrived in Shanghai on the 28th. Before the end of the year, another 50 containers of products will be shipped to Shanghai and enter China's high-end retail market.

For Mian Sangnan, director of quality control at Zhongbao Food, the surge in purchase orders from China means that she and her colleagues have increased workload, increased real income, and significantly improved their living standards.

Mian Sangnan has worked at Zhongbao Food for many years and has witnessed the steady growth of Chinese market demand year by year. She is satisfied with her salary and working environment.

Zhongbao Food purchases more than 90,000 tons of fresh mangoes from farmers and middlemen across Cambodia every year, creating a large number of local job opportunities. The company currently has 2,600 employees, mostly from surrounding areas and neighboring provinces.

"In 2025, we will export 12,000 tons of dried mangoes to the Chinese market." The company's chief administrative officer Lei Te Songheng said that thanks to a new round of purchase orders from China, this year's output far exceeds last year's level, which means that the factory can hire more employees and purchase more fresh fruits, so that the income of workers and farmers can be improved.

Another Chinese-owned Khmer Nut Company, which has been deeply involved in the Cambodian cashew market since 2020, has also built a complete local industrial chain covering planting, acquisition, drying, warehousing, transportation, oil extraction and other links. At present, Chinese-funded enterprises investing in agricultural product processing in Cambodia have formed a certain scale, covering many categories such as mango, rubber, rice, and cashew nuts. They have become the epitome of mutual benefit and win-win results in the agricultural fields of the two countries.

In recent years, Cambodia has leveraged Chinese capital and markets to accelerate the upgrading of its agricultural industry chain. A senior official from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries recently stated that the country is actively promoting investment in agricultural product processing, storage and cold chain logistics industries to create greater value from locally produced raw materials and further expand exports to the Chinese market.

Pan Dongfeng, executive vice president of the China Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, said that Chinese companies are building production lines in Cambodia, exporting mature processing technologies, relying on localized production, and using quality that meets international standards to obtain high-end market entry. This not only serves the Chinese consumer market, but also lays a solid foundation for promoting local agricultural products and their high value-added processed products to open up the global market.
