Egypt: 5 killed and 3 injured from a very dangerous gang formation in Giza Governorate

(CNN) - On Sunday evening, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced details of confrontations and shootings with a gang formation that it described as “extremely dangerous.” Its members, it said, practiced bullying and forcibly placed their hands on dozens of agricultural acres owned by others in Giza Governorate.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior said in a post on its official account on the “X” platform, Twitter previously: “Information and investigations of the Public Security Sector, in coordination with the relevant ministry agencies, confirmed that a criminal center that includes (10 highly dangerous criminal elements, previously accused and sentenced for drug felonies, forcible theft, attempted murder, a firearm, a permanent disability, and diversion of agricultural land), is practicing acts of bullying, imposing control, and forcibly placing their hands on dozens of owned agricultural acres.” to others, possessing unlicensed firearms, and illegally collecting sums of money from landowners as royalties at gunpoint.”

The Ministry explained that the members of the formation took a place in an agricultural area in the Sheikh Zayed Second Police Department in Giza, as a scene to carry out their criminal activity.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated, "After codifying the procedures, the members of the formation were tracked down and targeted, with the participation of the Central Security Sector. Fire was exchanged, and the interaction resulted in the death of 5 of them and the injury of 3. They were transferred to a hospital to receive the necessary treatment, and others were arrested. 10 automatic rifles, cartridges, and a quantity of bullets of various calibres were found in their possession. Legal measures were taken, and the Public Prosecution took over the investigation."

The Ministry attached its post with a photo of two members of the formation after their arrest and a number of weapons and other seized items.
