Execution of an Indian citizen convicted of drug smuggling in Saudi Arabia

(CNN) - The Saudi Ministry of Interior announced, on Sunday, the execution of a “discretionary” death sentence against one of the perpetrators in the Eastern Province, according to what was reported by the Saudi “SPA” news agency.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior said in a statement: “Abbotti Valil, an Indian national, smuggled methamphetamine into the Kingdom.”

The ministry added: “Thanks to God, the security authorities were able to arrest the aforementioned perpetrator, and his investigation resulted in him being accused of committing the crime, and referring him to the competent court. A ruling was issued against him to prove what was attributed to him and to kill him (as a discretionary punishment), and the ruling became final after it was confirmed by his authority, and a royal order was issued to enforce what was decided according to Sharia law,” according to SPA.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior confirmed that “a death sentence (as a discretionary punishment) was carried out against the perpetrator, Abuti Valil, an Indian national, on Sunday, 4/16/1448 AH, corresponding to 9/27/2026 AD, in the Eastern Province.”
