The "Yunlin County Chronicle" compiled by more than 100 experts and scholars for five years will be published at the end of October, covering 9 major chronicles including history, geography, political affairs, economy, society, education, religion, culture and people, with a word count of up to 7.1 million words. In order to give villagers a sneak peek, the county government held three special exhibitions on county chronicles, the first of which was launched today (11th) at the Cultural and Observation Department Exhibition Hall.

"Yunlin Chronicles - Yunlin County Chronicles Special Exhibition" opened today. County Magistrate Zhang Lishan, Deputy County Magistrate Chen Bijun, Yunlin County Chronicles compilation team Chief Editor Professor Wu Xueming and many local representatives attended the exhibition to experience it.

Zhang Lishan pointed out that Yunlin is the only county in Taiwan that does not have a county chronicle. There was a draft of the Yunlin County Chronicle in 1973, but it was never completed. She kept it in mind after taking office. By chance, she found Professor Wu Xueming, who was also a student of Yunlin, and was willing to take on the important responsibility. She recruited more than 100 experts and scholars from across Taiwan to write the county chronicle for Yunlin. After five years of interviews, field surveys, documentary research, and collection of old photos, there were 9 chronicles totaling 7.1 million words.

Wu Xueming said that for a long time, most Yunlin villagers have limited understanding of Yunlin's history, culture and other aspects. The compilation of a complete set of Yunlin County Chronicles is actually an important cultural construction of Yunlin County. Frankly speaking, the compilation process is not an easy task, starting from who to write, whether to get support, data collection, etc. The successful completion of Yunlin County Chronicles should be "timely and appropriate." Xie Mingxuan, director of the Department of Culture and Tourism, pointed out that the special exhibition of Yunlin County Chronicles, with the theme of "Yunlin Chronicles", leads the public to understand the historical changes of Yunlin's name and administrative region. Through precious old photos, local historical materials, interactive installations and situational design, the history originally sealed in words is transformed into a cultural experience that can be seen, heard, and personally participated.

Zhang Lishan said that there are many folks in Yunlin who have migrated abroad. The county chronicle special exhibition is not only in Yunlin County, but also hopes to go to all parts of the country to share the culture, history and stories of Yunlin with fellow folks in other places, and thus love Yunlin's hometown even more.
