North Korea warns Japan of 'immediate devastating strike' if 'wrong choice' is made

Kim Yo Jong, who holds the position of department head in the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said, according to the Korean Central News Agency, that North Korea is seriously monitoring Japan's attempts at "military expansion" and considers them a potential long-term threat that may lead to an imbalance of power in the Asia-Pacific region. She added: "If Japan tries to make the wrong choice, it will now be directly exposed to an immediate, devastating and unsurvivable blow." These threats come in the wake of North Korea's harsh criticism of Japan's annual defense report, which placed China at the top of strategic challenges and called for strengthening defense capabilities using drones and artificial intelligence. Kim Yo Jong accused Japan of "accelerating its transformation from a wartime criminal state into a wartime state," taking advantage of what she described as escalating geopolitical conflicts. According to KCNA, North Korea's military leadership has already begun to consider deterring and suppressing the threat from Japan, or taking "tougher" measures, as part of the country's military strategy. North Korea adheres to its position of rejecting any external interference, and considers the American military presence in the region a direct threat to its security. Kim Yo Jong stressed on previous occasions her country's adherence to its nuclear program and its rejection of disarmament, indicating that it will continue to modernize its capabilities in this field "without a single moment of pause." These threats come at a time when the Korean Peninsula is witnessing escalating tension, with North Korea continuing its missile tests, and Washington and Seoul strengthening their defense cooperation.
