Goyang City asks to beware of product delivery scams impersonating government officials

Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, recently issued a request to local businesses and small business owners to be especially careful as there have been cases of people impersonating city hall officials requesting the purchase and delivery of goods from local businesses.

The impersonator contacted the company by impersonating an employee of Goyang City Hall and requested the purchase and delivery of specific items.

In this process, it was discovered that a forged official document disguised as an actual administrative agency was sent to a mobile phone, leading the company to misunderstand that it was normal city ordering business.

The city confirmed that the communication and document was an act of impersonation unrelated to the city, and requested the police to investigate to prevent further damage.

Fortunately, the company directly inquired with the department in charge to confirm the facts, so it did not result in any financial damage, including delivery of goods.

The city emphasized that in order to prevent similar damage from impersonation, the authenticity must be confirmed even when official documents or order-related materials are delivered.

In particular, he urged people to check whether an order was actually placed and the department in charge by calling the official administrative phone number indicated on the city website.
