The captain of the sunken ship "Tuğberk İmamoğlu" admitted that there was no observer on board during the accident, although his presence was provided for by the company's security system.

As part of the investigation, six suspects from another ship, Alsu, were brought to court, where violations in the organization of watches and compliance with safety measures were also revealed.

The court decided to take two people into custody on charges of causing death and injury by negligence, and four more suspects were released under judicial control with a ban on leaving the country.

The captain of the Turkish ship that sank after a collision in the Sea of ​​Marmara admitted that there was no observer on board during the accident, although his presence was provided for by the company’s security system, follows from investigation materials published by the Turkish newspaper Türkiye.

The collision between two ships flying Turkish flags occurred on September 2 off the coast of Silivri. After the accident, the ship "Tuğberk İmamoğlu" sank, and the fate of the ten crew members on board remains unknown at the moment.

“The captain admitted that there was no observer on board at the time of the accident, and confirmed that, in accordance with the company’s safe management system, an observer should have been on board. However, he stated that the decision to appoint an observer was within his competence,” the newspaper writes.

As part of the investigation, six suspects from another vessel, Alsu, were brought to court. The prosecutor's office paid special attention to the organization of the watch and compliance with safety measures on his captain's bridge.

According to the case file, at the time of the collision only the third captain and the watch officer were on the bridge. No observer or helmsman was assigned.

At the same time, Evdzhiman joined the crew just two days before the accident and kept a watch from midnight to 04.00. The investigation considered a circumstance that could affect the safety of navigation that the officer on watch, who was not yet sufficiently familiar with the ship and the bridge equipment, remained there alone.

According to the prosecutor's office, the third captain noticed the dangerous maneuver of the oncoming vessel from about half a mile away. However, he did not then reduce speed, stop the engine, or perform a full reverse maneuver that could have helped avoid a collision.

Instead, according to the case file, he continued to change course to the left. Experts considered such actions to be a contributing factor to the collision and its severe consequences.
