Former New Taipei City Fire Department Chief Huang Deqing passed away at the age of 62

Huang Deqing, former chief of the New Taipei City Fire Department, passed away yesterday (September 30). It is reported that Huang Deqing was rushed to Lishuanghe Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare by ambulance personnel for treatment on the 27th of last month due to persistent stomach pain, cold sweats, and jaundice. After being hospitalized for rescue for nearly three days, his condition still did not improve. Unfortunately, he passed away in the hospital at the age of 62. The family plans to hold a farewell ceremony on October 9.

It is reported that Huang Deqing graduated from the 52nd class of the Fire Department of the Central Police University and has a complete career experience. He has served as squadron leader of the Taipei City Fire Department, Keelung Port Fire Captain, Fire Department Commissioner, and Miaoli County Fire Chief. In 2006, under the recommendation of former Fire Department Chief Zhao Gang, he was recognized by the then Taipei County Mayor Zhou Xiwei and was appointed to take over as Taipei County Fire Chief. Later, he was promoted through the county and city, and served as the Fire Chief in New Taipei City for 17 years. He served in the two dynasties of Zhu Lilun and Hou Youyi, making him a rare "three-dynasty veteran" from Taipei County to New Taipei City. In 2024, he was transferred to the New Taipei City Government Counselor.

Huang Deqing, who was born in Taitung County, had a poor family since he was a child. He once said in a media interview that when he was a child, he had to help his mother set up a vendor business and was often banned by the police. He believed that the police had great power, so he followed his mother's advice and passed the police academy. Huang Deqing said with a smile: "I chose the fire department and found out that I don't have much power, but it is dangerous to rescue disasters and fires." His frank character is clearly revealed between the lines.

Huang Deqing has a diligent work style and has a good reputation in police and police circles and political circles. When he was transferred from Miaoli to Taipei County, the then Miaoli County Magistrate Liu Zhenghong also fully supported him. Huang Deqing devoted all the best years of his life to the firefighting and disaster relief system. Now he passed away suddenly. Many of his former subordinates and police and firefighters colleagues were extremely shocked and saddened to hear the news.
